This month, we wanted to spotlight some of the new cloud features that shipped last month and are enabling teams to keep pace with database estates that increasingly span multiple platforms and providers. We also have updates for Monitor Enterprise users that improve alerting for permission changes.  Here's what's new in Monitor:

Query-level visibility now reaches Azure and Google Cloud SQL 

Individual query execution monitoring is now available for Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Google Cloud SQL for SQL Server (v14.26). 

Users will get the exact query text, duration, CPU time, and reads & writes behind any long-running execution, wherever that instance happens to be hosted. A slow query on Azure or Google Cloud can now be tracked down with the same depth of detail. 

A smarter, more unified view of Aurora clusters 

Aurora PostgreSQL monitoring now brings cluster instances, cluster events, and aggregated query performance into a single unified view (v14.26). Dashboards show one card per cluster, with instance-level detail just a click away inside the ‘Overview’. 

A failover, a spike in wait time, or a shift in query patterns across an Aurora cluster can now be observed in one clean view rather than pieced together across several nodes. Clusters with auto reader monitoring enabled will also identify and start monitoring new reader nodes automatically, so coverage grows with your Aurora estate, no extra configuration required.  

Full cost visibility for virtual machines, disk-level usage information 

The Virtual Machines cost page has moved out of preview and now includes per disk detail for space used, capacity and average IOPS, alongside read, write and total throughput for each disk (v14.24). 

This gives an even more complete picture of virtual machine estates, right down to the individual disk. That level of detail is exactly what supports confident right sizing decisions and uncovers real savings, rather than guesswork about where cloud spend is going. Sharper alerting on permission changes 

Alongside this month's cloud feature focus, we also have updates for Monitor Enterprise users that sharpen alerting on permission changes. 

The new database permission change alert for SQL Server instances with SQL Audit enabled means security and compliance teams learn about a change the moment it happens (v14.24). It fires whenever a permission is granted, revoked, denied, or transferred on a database or its securables. 

Alongside this, SQL Audit-based permission change tracking has now reached General Availability, providing instant visibility into permission changes across the database estate. 

In case you missed it: AI tooling now connects directly to Monitor's data 

Introduced last month and continuing to take shape, Redgate Assistant and the Monitor MCP Server are now in preview, each offering a different way for AI to work with the information Monitor already holds. 

Redgate Assistant is Redgate's agentic AI assistant across the wider product portfolio. In Monitor, it brings that insight directly into conversational, AI-assisted diagnosis, putting expert-level answers within immediate reach conveniently in Monitor, next to the data you're already working with, right when a question or an incident demands it."

For teams who want their own AI tools connected to Monitor, the Monitor MCP Server (v14.20) links your AI assistant or agent directly to that information, so it can be reasoned over wherever your team already works. 

When AI tooling can draw directly on the performance history, query behavior and alerting context Monitor already holds, issues get triaged faster and resolved sooner, letting teams focus more of their attention on higher value, strategic work.
