Redgate Test Data Manager’s December release brings AI Custom Datasets to general availability, introduces streamlined setup workflows, and delivers quality-of-life improvements that simplify your day-to-day operations.
AI Custom Datasets – now generally available
Create custom datasets for anonymization in seconds using natural language. Describe what you need, “Spanish first names,” “UK driving license patterns,” “North American airport codes”, and AI generates a properly formatted dataset ready for masking. No syntax to memorize, no manual list-building, no searching for reference data online.
With this capability, we introduced AI for smarter and safer test data management, and it’s now generally available to all users following a successful preview period.

Setup Wizard – easier configuration using the interface
Configure Test Data Manager through a new setup wizard in the TDM UI. The guided process walks you through initial configuration steps, reducing setup time and eliminating guesswork for new installations.
Dry Run and Auto-Exclude – catch issues before execution
Preview your anonymization results before committing to a full masking operation. Dry run validates your set up, letting you verify that masked values meet your requirements. When the validation surfaces issues, such as datasets that don’t fit your column constraints, auto-exclude removes the problematic configurations in one action. Refine your treatments with confidence, knowing the final run will succeed.
Simplified Installation – no SQL Server backing database required
New installations now use SQLite as the backing database by default, removing the requirement for an existing SQL Server instance. This simplifies initial setup, particularly for teams evaluating the product or running smaller deployments. Existing SQL Server installations remain unaffected.
