CAMBRIDGE, UK – June 2026 – DB-Engines has released its ranking of the fastest-growing database technologies of the first half of 2026, with PostgreSQL recording the largest increase in popularity score between January and June.
The latest data highlights continued momentum behind open-source databases, cloud-native data platforms and analytics technologies, as organizations increasingly invest in modern data architectures to support AI, application development and large-scale analytics workloads.
PostgreSQL was the standout performer, increasing its DB-Engines Ranking score by 21.97 points over the six-month period. Databricks followed in second place (+16.04), while MongoDB (+11.24), Microsoft Fabric (+10.94) and Snowflake (+6.78) rounded out the top five.
The results reflect a database market increasingly shaped by the convergence of data management, analytics and AI. While PostgreSQL continues to strengthen its position as the leading open-source database platform, the strong performance of Databricks, Microsoft Fabric and Snowflake points to growing demand for unified data platforms capable of supporting advanced analytics and AI-driven workloads.
Open-source technologies featured prominently throughout the rankings. Alongside PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse, Apache Cassandra and Apache HBase all recorded notable gains during the first six months of the year, demonstrating the continued importance of community-driven technologies across enterprise and developer audiences.
“The first half of 2026 has confirmed what many of us have been watching closely,” said Kellyn Gorman, Advocate at Redgate. “PostgreSQL’s continued growth isn’t surprising; it’s a testament to how far open-source technologies have come. The performance of Databricks, Microsoft Fabric and Snowflake tells us something important: organizations aren’t just thinking about databases anymore, they’re thinking about their entire data and analytics ecosystem. As AI initiatives mature, I believe the platforms that can bring data management, analytics and governance together will be the ones that define the rest of this year.”
