Software Engineer

Location: Cambridge

In-office expectation: Once every two weeks

Employment type: Permanent

Salary: up to £55,000 DOE

Why This Role Exists

Redgate's internal systems, covering data, security, purchasing, licensing, identity, authentication and usage, keep the wider business and thousands of customers running smoothly. As the company scales and takes on new commercial offerings, the Shared Applications & Services group needs engineers who can help keep that platform healthy, resilient and ready for what's next. This role gives a mid-level engineer real ownership over meaningful features while building the deeper technical and architectural understanding needed to grow further.

About Redgate

Redgate brings together people who want to do their best work in an environment built on trust, accountability, and collaboration.

We build solutions that help data professionals securely manage the data and databases that their organisations depend on, a space that's only becoming more critical as systems scale, data regulations increase, and AI adoption accelerates.

AI at Redgate

By 2028, Redgate will operate as an expert-plus-agent company, domain experts amplified by AI, delivering customer value at a pace our peers can't match.

AI handles the heavy lifting. Our people control the judgement. Everyone at Redgate works with Claude, giving you access to the best AI tools from day one.

Why Join the Shared Applications & Services Team?

● You'll join a small, cross-functional team, made up of a Tech Lead, Lead Software Engineer, Product Owner and fellow engineers, alongside a Shared Applications & Services Manager and an architect who provide direction and support at the group level.

● There's a coaching function in place to help you get unblocked, and real scope to grow your technical and architectural understanding as you take on more.

● The team cares about craft, collaboration and quality, and values sustainable delivery: good ways of working and time to improve how you build, not just what you ship.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer (Mid), you'll independently deliver significant features end-to-end across systems that the whole business relies on, seeking support as needed while continuing to build your knowledge of design principles, testing methods and Redgate's internal systems.

● Work across systems spanning data, security, purchasing, licensing, identity, authentication and usage, supporting both product engineering teams and the wider business

● Real scope to influence architectural decisions and deepen your understanding of how Redgate's platform is designed and operated

● Take ownership of production issues, from investigation through to resolution and prevention

● Exposure to a broad tech stack spanning C#/.NET, React, Azure, event-driven architecture and observability tooling

● A role structured around learning while delivering: broadening your technical skills and system knowledge while contributing real value from day one

What Makes You a Great Fit

● Solid experience with modern C#/.NET, SQL, source control and CI/CD pipelines, and confidence applying design principles and architectural patterns with an understanding of trade-offs in context

● A bias for simplicity and maintainability, backed by strong engineering practices including unit testing, code review, debugging and safe change management

● Awareness of distributed systems and operational risk, such as timeouts, retries, versioning and partial failures, and the judgement to apply this when changing shared or production systems

● Ability to investigate production and support issues using logs, telemetry, database queries and service-level diagnostics

● Strong communication skills, in person and in writing, particularly when explaining technical findings, risks or trade-offs to engineering and product partners

What We Offer

Salary range: Up to £55,000

● Hybrid working: home and Cambridge office

● Monthly wellbeing allowance and generous paid time off

● Genuine investment in learning, development, and career progression

● Private health insurance

Our hiring process

Application

Tell us about yourself, your skills, and why you’d like to join Redgate. Include your CV or LinkedIn profile, and any portfolios to showcase your work.

We will acknowledge your application straight away and review it carefully. Every application is considered by a member of our Talent team, not AI, because we believe hiring should always be human.

Initial Conversation

If your application looks like a good match, we will arrange an initial interview to learn more about you and answer any questions you have about Redgate and the role. This is a chance for us to get to know you and for you to get a feel for what it’s like to work here.

Skills Alignment Interview

This stage is all about your expertise and giving you a real sense of the role. You’ll meet different people, often including future teammates.

You may complete a technical assessment or focus on competency-based questions to explore how you approach challenges. If there’s anything you’d like us to cover or any part of the process you’re worried about, just let us know.

Values Alignment Interview

Shared values matter as much as skills. This conversation helps us both explore whether Redgate feels like the right fit. You’ll meet people who live our values every day, and we will allow plenty of time for your questions.

If everything feels like a great fit, we will make you an offer and talk through the details so you know exactly what to expect.
