Why this role exists

Redgate's customers rely on us to help them manage database change safely, and good design is central to making that possible. This role exists to strengthen our user-centred design practice to Flyway, working alongside product and engineering to turn complex technical problems into workflows that DBAs, DevOps engineers and ops teams can trust and use with confidence.

About Redgate

Redgate brings together people who want to do their best work in an environment built on trust, accountability, and collaboration.

We build solutions that help data professionals securely manage the data and databases that their organizations depend on, a space that's only becoming more critical as systems scale, data regulations increase, and AI adoption accelerates.

AI at Redgate

By 2028, Redgate will operate as an expert-plus-agent company, domain experts amplified by AI, delivering customer value at a pace our peers can't match.

AI handles the heavy lifting. Our people control the judgement. Everyone at Redgate works with Claude, giving you access to the best AI tools from day one.

Why join our design team?

  • You'll work in a team that cares about craft, collaboration, and quality.

  • There's real scope to grow your skills and impact, with clear pathways and support.

  • We value sustainable delivery, good ways of working and time to improve how we build.

About the role

You'll join the team behind Flyway, Redgate's database change management product, working alongside a technical lead, product manager and five software engineers, with support from a Lead Product Designer. This is a hands-on role covering everything from early exploration through to shipped, production-ready solutions.

  • End-to-end design collaboration, from prototyping through to production and testing, shaping workflows, interfaces and interactions for a complex technical product.

  • Close collaboration with product and engineering, making sure a design and experience perspective is factored into delivery from the outset.

  • Use of qualitative and quantitative research to inform decisions, with regular user testing feeding directly into how the product evolves.

  • Contribution to Honeycomb, Redgate's shared UI component and pattern library, alongside coaching and mentoring of junior team members.

  • A technical, specialist domain where your work directly shapes how DBAs and DevOps teams manage risk in their databases.

What makes you a great fit

  • Experience designing for software or database development tools, or other complex, technical B2B domains.

  • A portfolio demonstrating a user-centred design process, from research through to shipped solutions.

  • Experience turning research findings into clear, well-reasoned design recommendations, even when the picture is ambiguous or incomplete.

  • Experience working in cross-functional agile teams, collaborating closely with product managers, engineers and other designers.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Our hiring process

Application

Tell us about yourself, your skills, and why you’d like to join Redgate. Include your CV or LinkedIn profile, and any portfolios to showcase your work.

We will acknowledge your application straight away and review it carefully. Every application is considered by a member of our Talent team, not AI, because we believe hiring should always be human.

Initial Conversation

If your application looks like a good match, we will arrange an initial interview to learn more about you and answer any questions you have about Redgate and the role. This is a chance for us to get to know you and for you to get a feel for what it’s like to work here.

Skills Alignment Interview

This stage is all about your expertise and giving you a real sense of the role. You’ll meet different people, often including future teammates.

You may complete a technical assessment or focus on competency-based questions to explore how you approach challenges. If there’s anything you’d like us to cover or any part of the process you’re worried about, just let us know.

Values Alignment Interview

Shared values matter as much as skills. This conversation helps us both explore whether Redgate feels like the right fit. You’ll meet people who live our values every day, and we will allow plenty of time for your questions.

If everything feels like a great fit, we will make you an offer and talk through the details so you know exactly what to expect.
