Software Engineer (Internal Systems)

As part of the team which builds and maintains the internal systems at Redgate (our “CORE” team), you will be helping us make sure every part of the global business has the tools and information they need to operate.

You’ll need to understand how different Redgate divisions work, applying technology to solve their problems. You will need good communication skills to gather requirements, negotiate with stakeholders, handle support requests and work with the team to solve problems.

You will need solid coding skills to build Web applications, event-driven services and integrate with 3rd party APIs. Our coding stack is C# and APEX, with some React/Typescript. We work a lot with third-party business software, so configuring and managing environments is part of the job. We use Git for source control, lean heavily on unit testing and use CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, Octopus Deploy and Gearset.

You’ll be working through all stages of a solution’s life, from requirements, through to deployment and maintenance. We work in an agile way and aim to balance improvement projects, incident response and maintenance.

What will make you a good fit?

  • Experience of building and running systems, both home-grown and SaaS .
  • Enthusiasm for working as part of a team and talking to your business users.
  • Comfortable balancing competing demands on the team’s time.
  • Using and designing REST APIs and/or messaging systems.
  • You care about long-term outcomes, aiming for systems which provide value to the business but are also flexible and robust.
  • You enjoy learning new things and sharing your knowledge.

What would really help?

  • Experience working with Salesforce or similar CRM.
  • Confident Javascript UI development and/or design skills.
  • Data handling and domain modelling experience.
  • Understanding the usefulness of functional programming concepts, even in an OO language like C#

What’s the package?

  • A great benefits package
  • A commitment to your continuous learning and development
  • Salary is £35-45K, depending on experience
  • You will work about 40 hours a week, with flexible work time

Our hiring process

Application

Tell us about yourself, your skills and experience, and talk about why you’d like to work at Redgate.

Include a CV, or a link to your LinkedIn page, and if you'd like to show some of your work, attach your portfolio or point us to Stack Overflow or GitHub.

Assessments

We’ll acknowledge your application straight away, review it and keep you updated on your progress. We might also email an assessment to complete, or invite you for a brief telephone interview. If we don’t think you’re suitable we’ll tell you why. We won’t let you down, we’ll try and help you.

Our assessments focus on how well you’re able to do the job – we won’t ask you to solve arbitrary logic puzzles.

Interviews

You’ll be talking to different people, you may well meet people you’ll be working with, and we’ll allow time for you to ask questions. We don’t have a dress code at Redgate, by the way, so dress in whatever makes you comfortable.

We want you to be relaxed and at your best in our interviews. If there's anything you'd especially like us to ask you about, or any parts of the interview you dread, let us know.

Offer

If we think you’d be great at Redgate, we’ll make an offer and iron out any details like relocation issues.

If we don’t think you’ll fit in right away, we’ll tell you why. Some people have taken our advice and come back a year later and got a job.
