Retirement of old MySQL Tools

On October 7th  2023 we will be retiring MySQL Compare and MySQL Data Compare while we continue to focus development of MySQL support for database change deployment in Flyway. If you are among the recent purchasers of the retired tooling, we would like to offer you a free one year subscription for Flyway Teams in exchange for providing your feedback.

Why we’re making this change

Our research has shown that many of our customers use our comparison tools to deploy changes from a development environment to production. This state-based approach works well for simple database changes, but for more complex changes the migrations-based approach to deployment offered by Flyway is much more flexible and accurate. We have been investing in the development of Flyway since 2019 and we are looking forward to introducing more advanced MySQL support over coming months. We are also keen to solicit feedback on how well this solves your deployment problems.

How MySQL & Flyway Desktop works
You can now create a new project and the schema model and generate migrations tabs will be available within any new MySQL projects that you create. Here’s a short demo video by our advocate Grant Fritchey showcasing MySQL with Flyway.

MySQL is now available for all our community, teams and enterprise users.

In addition to conventional MySQL, we are soon planning to release support for the MySQL forks- Percona and MariaDB. If you would like to know more about our updates on this please add a comment or get in touch. If you used data compare tool or are interested in static data for MySQL, then please get in touch with me.

Meanwhile if you have any questions, please contact our support team or me directly on prajakta.tamhankar@red-gate.com. We will be very happy to help.

Kind regards,

Prajakta
