This tool has done what it claims to be able to do. Its interactions with me have not left me frustrated or angry. It has provided me with information that is useful in my day to day duties. Configuring it properly will allow me to monitor my systems and keep an ear to the ground, even if I am not in the office to be present when things occur in my DB.

I warn all those of you thinking about using SQL Monitor. Don't do it. I mean, don't do it, unless you are willing to allow yourself to become addicted to its features and information and alerting. Don't do it unless you want to find yourself falling in love with an imaginary monkey that watches your systems without fail when you are not in the office. Don't do it unless you like offloading the automated digging into your systems, the automated alerting of issues, the freedom that this product grants you to do other tasks while it consistently does its prescribed tasks.
I have been as impressed with SQL Monitor as I was with the older SQL Response tool. The effect a monitoring tool leaves on my SQL Server instances is just as important as the value it adds to them. Red Gate has done a very good job at making that equation come to a winning result.

One of the best usability features about SQL Monitor is that the interface is web based. This means that no matter which location I am at on the Company network I can log in and see the situation with my servers. I don't need a specific PC or laptop with the software installed or to be on the same LAN as the servers. I can also share this login with other members of the IT department so they can do some basic checks for me while I am away.

Red Gate's SQL Monitor 2.0 system represents a robust, comprehensive, seamless approach to simplify the life of an (in)voluntary DBA. It is the single place for gathering performance information, analysis, and reports.

Reviews for SQL Response, the previous version of SQL Monitor
I put SQL Response under the microscope and looked at everything it was doing, reading, using to do so, and the impact it had on my test database server. The impact was very low (my word) and installation quick and painless. As with any great monitoring tool, notifications by email are also available.

SQL Response does meet the bill for a low-impact, intuitive monitoring application for SQL Server. The dashboard is great and provides a lot of information to the DBA very easily.

SQL Response was an easy tool to install and get running. Within minutes I was up and running and finding out useful things about my servers that I never knew.
