Community and environment

Red Gate understands that we all care about our community and our environment. We have a dedicated group of people committed to Red Gate giving something back. They're always open to new ideas so if you join us and have a great idea we'd love to hear it! Here are just a few things that Red Gate does right now to help our community and environment.

Supporting the community

Charitable Activity Day

All Red Gate employees can spend one day a year on a charitable activity. If there's a charity that's important to you, and you feel you can make a difference, then Red Gate encourages you to work for them for a day. We think of it as Red Gate donating your unique talents. You still get paid, and you don't have to use any annual leave. The people you help get to feel good and we get to feel good at Red Gate too.

Sports in the local community

We support our Red Gate champions in their quest for glory in the Cambridge 5-a-side Football League. We are also an official sponsor of Histon Football Club. We are working voluntarily with Histon to increase awareness of their continued success in the Blue Square Premier League, and to offer support to their rising stars, some of whom who have been called up to the England squad for international games.

Local charities in Cambridge

Red Gate is committed to building relationships with the local community charities, both through individuals' charitable activity day and through our full day of charitable work for local causes. Red Gate has joined hands with Cambridge's Jubilee Project and Sandy Lane Ceramics to support homeless people faced with the poverty trap but wishing to better their lives. The Project provides accommodation in Cambridge for people who have successfully rehabilitated. Sandy Lane Ceramics provides employment for Jubilee Project residents. All the residents are taught the processes of making bespoke hand-made tiles and are supported in finding alternative work and accommodation whilst working at Sandy Lane Ceramics. Red Gate is giving 100 days of its employees' time to the project this year to help them to become a self sufficient business. This will fund the Project for longer which will mean helping more people to get off the streets in Cambridge and into a secure working environment. Red Gate is committed to helping the communities in Cambridge and all Red Gate employees who get involved in this project do so on a voluntary basis, enjoying fully paid volunteer days.

Recycling

Red Gate has recycling bins dotted all around the offices and kitchens so we only throw away what we need to. We recycle all plastic bottles, Tetra-Pak cartons, paper and cardboard from our Feel Good Fridge so that we can feel healthy and be happy in the knowledge that we are helping to protect the environment. If you fancy visiting the nearby supermarket at lunchtime, you can also help yourself to a recycled plastic bag before you go.

Duplex printers

Our printers are duplex helping us to save paper. Any paper that we do use is recycled. In the age of the paperless office, we're doing pretty well to avoid using too many trees.
