Step 1: Taking a backup

Taking a backup

For this example, we first need to have a backup of the live database, Widget Live. Let's assume you have previously used SQL Data Compare to take a backup during an earlier synchronization, as illustrated above.

We know that on our test server a colleague mistakenly input some erroneous data. Rather than restore the entire database we would like to be able to simply restore the correct data to the test server prior to updating the production database.
