SQL Compare® Case Studies
Comparing database schemas quickly, accurately and thoroughly
This is a letter to us from a customer, printed verbatim.
"SQL Compare helped in a project that has eased the suffering of thousands of Africans. Sleeping sickness is the third most significant disease issue in Africa after AIDS and malaria and, along with another disease which kills cattle, is transmitted by a large, biting Tsetse fly. The Tsetse fly is present in and around the Okavango delta in northern Botswana. In 2001 and 2002 the Government of Botswana decided that, for the first time since 1945, an insecticide spraying program would be undertaken, and commissioned an environmental impact appraisal and monitoring program. In 2002, Biotrack Australia used its rapid biodiversity assessment methodology to collect a total of 102,248 terrestrial invertebrates as a baseline inventory to assess the impacts on non-target insects that were numerous, potentially susceptible to the insecticide, poorly known and difficult to sample. To help manage and enable worldwide use of this collection by both staff and customers of Biotrack Australia, I used SQL Compare to help migrate and refactor a traditional 2-tier VB6/SQL Server application to a more extensible database schema, and a more flexible .NET service-oriented architecture. Compared to manual methods, using SQL Compare as part of the SDLC made the process of comparing development, staging and production database schemas quick, accurate and thorough. Using SQL Compare's scripts – typically without any further modification – enabled me to quickly and confidently implement deployment of the new and improved services into production. Bottom line is that it saved me and my client time and money, and in its turn, I am sure, many Africans and their cattle."
