Working at Red Gate
Great jobs for great people

Graduate User Experience Specialist
"Right from week one I was producing designs for one of our most popular tools. It's great to be part of a company that values good design and each customer's user experience so highly." Tom Randle, User Experience Designer
Are you fanatical about user experience? Do you have an interest in technology and a love of design? We're looking for an impressive graduate to join the User Experience Team. You will find your passion for design realised from day one in a fast-paced and demanding environment. You'll create compelling user experiences, mocked up to varying degrees of fidelity, working with an amazing team of engineers, testers, authors, and other user experience specialists.
Alongside your CV and covering letter, we really want to see examples of work, in a format of your choice, to demonstrate your passion for design. Extra points if you can restrict your CV to one side, and maybe, just maybe, there will be cake at your interview.
What makes you a Red Gate user experience specialist?
- You're passionate about great user experience and have a genuine interest in software or web design.
- You have a flair for delivering creative solutions to difficult technical issues.
- You are a proactive team player; you'd certainly take a hit for the team during a Nerf battle.
- You really like post-it notes. And cake.
What experience do you have?
- You'll have a 2:1 or 1st from a good university, usually with a design, psychology, or technical background. We've been pleasantly surprised by people with the right mind-set but who studied non-UX degrees (we already have an architect and an oceanographer on the team!) so a degree in Interaction design/Human-Computer Interaction isn't a must.
- You understand some common causes of usability problems and the principles of interaction design.
What would really help?
- Experience with HTML/CSS/web design.
- You'll be using all the tools of the trade (Photoshop, Balsamiq, Morae, and more) - any prior experience in these would be great.
What's the package?
- All those lovely Red Gate perks.
- You'll work about 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with flexible hours.
- Salary is £26k - £28k, with a £2k signing bonus.
- Starting September 2012.
What else should you consider?
- You'll be working for one of the top graduate employers in the UK (number 7 to be precise) according to The JobCrowd Top 50 Companies for Graduates.
- There's no long induction programme; you'll gain experience and insight from your peers through working on real projects from the very beginning.
- We'll invest in you – the sky's the limit for your development.
- Visit our UX blog to get a taste of how we design a UI, how we collaborate, and the processes we (try to) follow.
