Red Gate adds code layout to SQL Prompt

"It's about freeing your mind from being a database repository"

CAMBRIDGE, U.K., April 24, 2008 - Red Gate Software has released a Pro Edition of SQL Prompt that includes automated code layout for better readability and efficiency. SQL Prompt is Red Gate's popular code-completion tool introduced last year.

"We're used to the 'auto-documentation' feature of VS2005, where you create XML comments once and then benefit from these again and again," says Dr. Michael Dye of Dyetech.  "SQL Prompt has evolved to provide this same auto-documentation functionality for SQL. It's about freeing the mind from being a database repository and instead concentrating on problem-solving and solution-providing."

SQL Prompt is a T-SQL code-completion add-in for Visual Studio, Management Studio, SSMS Express Edition, and Query Analyzer. It intelligently anticipates the code candidates that SQL Server professionals need as they're writing, enabling faster, error-free T-SQL queries. The Professional Edition now includes automatic code layout that makes it easier to work with unfamiliar scripts.

With SQL Prompt Pro, database developers and administrators are not only able to write SQL code faster and more accurately, they can layout code in an easy to read, customizable format.  This is particularly useful when working on unfamiliar scripts or scripts from multiple sources, such as those from members of your development team who may write code in different formats. Also included in the new release are mouse-over tool tips that provide object definitions, including useful summaries, and parameter hinting for functions.

Make life easier - and save keystrokes

"SQL Prompt makes a developer's life easier by saving time and energy from not having to look up objects or remember an entire database structure in your head," says Tanya Joseph, Red Gate's Project Leader for SQL Prompt.  "You can forget about the painful process of navigating through the object explorer or sp_help to explore database data.  The new layout feature in SQL Prompt Pro makes reading scripts in unfamiliar formats easy."

"I use SQL Prompt whenever I write any SQL, simple or complex, because it's such a powerful programming aid," says Brian Finkel of Advanced Solutions Group.  "I no longer have to constantly look up or memorize obscure object names and SQL commands. Instead I can just browse for them.  Of course, it also saves lots of keystrokes."

A demo, walkthrough, and fully functional, 14-day trial download of SQL Prompt 3.8 can be found on the SQL Prompt product page.
