Of course, this feature has being evolved since that time.<\/p>\n<p>I would emphasize the performance. The general UI performance seems way better than when it was first released. Let&#8217;s talk about some more news on the <strong>Power BI Datamarts<\/strong>, specially on the UI.<\/p>\n<h2>It&#8217;s easier to change the datamarts name<\/h2>\n<p>By clicking on the top of the window, on the datamart name, we can easily change the datamart name. When it was first created, the name was default and the datamart had to be renamed later.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"401\" height=\"134\" class=\"wp-image-95189\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/texto-descricao-gerada-automaticamente-com-confia.png\" alt=\"Texto\n\nDescri\u00e7\u00e3o gerada automaticamente com confian\u00e7a baixa\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>We can save queries<\/h2>\n<p>A very welcome new feature for exploratory analysis is the possibility to save the queries we built. Either Visual Queries or SQL Queries, we can save and name them.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"280\" height=\"90\" class=\"wp-image-95190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/interface-grafica-do-usuario-texto-aplicativo-e.png\" alt=\"Interface gr\u00e1fica do usu\u00e1rio, Texto, Aplicativo, Email\n\nDescri\u00e7\u00e3o gerada automaticamente\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"202\" height=\"230\" class=\"wp-image-95191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/interface-grafica-do-usuario-texto-aplicativo-d.png\" alt=\"Interface gr\u00e1fica do usu\u00e1rio, Texto, Aplicativo\n\nDescri\u00e7\u00e3o gerada automaticamente\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, we can\u2019t delete the queries yet, only save, but one problem at a time.<\/p>\n<h2>SQL Queries in a different place<\/h2>\n<p>The SQL Queries are not in the lower tabs anymore, but in a top button, a bit more hidden. Probably most users prefer the visual query than the SQL Query.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"196\" height=\"177\" class=\"wp-image-95192\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/interface-grafica-do-usuario-aplicativo-word-de.png\" alt=\"Interface gr\u00e1fica do usu\u00e1rio, Aplicativo, Word\n\nDescri\u00e7\u00e3o gerada automaticamente\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Export to Excel in Visual Queries<\/h2>\n<p>When I first wrote about Power BI datamarts, the <em>Open in Excel<\/em> option was only available for SQL Queries, not for Visual Queries.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it was just a matter of time for the Export to Excel be included in the Visual Query as well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"589\" height=\"286\" class=\"wp-image-95193\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/word-image-8.png\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Power BI Desktop connection to SQL<\/h2>\n<p>When we try to connect from Power BI desktop to the datamart, now we have the option to choose if we would like to connect to the azure SQL behind the scenes or make a live connection to the Power BI Analysis Services, connecting to the model.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1084\" height=\"625\" class=\"wp-image-95194\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/interface-grafica-do-usuario-texto-aplicativo-e-1.png\" alt=\"Interface gr\u00e1fica do usu\u00e1rio, Texto, Aplicativo, Email\n\nDescri\u00e7\u00e3o gerada automaticamente\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Datamart Connectivity<\/h2>\n<p>Using <strong>Power BI Desktop<\/strong>, you can connect either to the Dataset or the Datamart and the result will be the same: It appears as a live connection to <strong>Analysis Services<\/strong>, the <strong>Power BI<\/strong> underlying engine, in a simplified way.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"616\" height=\"348\" class=\"wp-image-95195\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/word-image-9.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In order to build a composite model, mixing the data from the data mart and other sources, you need the use of a preview feature: <strong>DirectQuery for PBI datasets and AS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"729\" height=\"501\" class=\"wp-image-95196\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/word-image-10.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once this preview feature is enabled in <strong>Power BI Desktop<\/strong>, you can convert the Live connection in DirectQuery by clicking on the button <em>Make Changes to this model.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The message will request you to click on the button <em>Add a local model<\/em>. This is exactly the difference between the Live connection and a composite model: The Live connection has no local model, is\u00a0 Live, while a composite model has a local model where the connections to the source are defined as DirectQuery or Import.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"760\" height=\"673\" class=\"wp-image-95197\" src=\"https:\/\/www.red-gate.com\/simple-talk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/interface-grafica-do-usuario-descricao-gerada-aut.png\" alt=\"Interface gr\u00e1fica do usu\u00e1rio\n\nDescri\u00e7\u00e3o gerada automaticamente\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Conclusion<\/h2>\n<p>In my humble opinion, the feature was already so good when it was released that it\u2019s receiving only few adjustments, but very welcome.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wrote an article about Power BI Datamarts which was released together the feature, on the exact moment it was being announced in a conference.
