Installing or upgrading the graphical user interface - SQL Backup
Install the SQL Backup graphical user interface (GUI) on the computer from which you want to run the backups, using the SQL Backup setup program SQL Backup.exe. If an earlier version of the SQL Backup GUI is already installed on the computer, it will be upgraded.
If you are upgrading from SQL Backup version 5 or 6, you will be asked to upgrade the activity cache when you run the SQL Backup version 7 GUI for the first time. See Upgrading from SQL Backup version 4, 5 or 6 for more information.
Note that you cannot install more than one version of the SQL Backup graphical user interface on the same computer.
The following files are installed in the installation folder. By default this is %Program Files%\Red Gate\SQL Backup 7 for 32-bit servers, and %Program Files (x86)%\Red Gate\SQL Backup 7 for 64-bit servers. You can specify an alternative location using the installation wizard.

SQBConverter.exe and SQBConverterGUI.exe |
SQBConverter.exe is a command-line program to convert SQL Backup files to Microsoft Tape Format (MTF) files. This program will also convert files created using SQL Backup version 6 or 7 to files compatible with SQL Backup version 5 and earlier. SQBConverterGUI.exe is a graphical user interface for the SQBConverter.exe command-line program. You can distribute this program as required; you do not need the full product installation to use it. sqb2mtf.exe |
A command-line program to convert SQL Backup files to Microsoft Tape Format (MTF) files. This program is superseded by the SQBConverter.exe program described above. sqb2mtf.exe is provided with SQL Backup v7 so that any existing scripts you may have written that use this program will continue to work. You can distribute this program as required; you do not need the full product installation to use it. |
SQBMaintPlanConv.exe |
This program converts maintenance plans created with SQL Server Management Studio or SQL Server Enterprise Manager. It disables native backup tasks and replaces them with tasks for SQL Backup jobs, enabling you to specify compression and encryption settings. Additionally, the SQBObjectLevelRecovery folder contains SQLObjectLevelRecoveryPro.exe, the executable file for the SQL Object Level Recovery Pro application.
Once you have installed or upgraded the SQL Backup GUI, add the SQL Server instances on which you want to use SQL Backup, and install the server components.
