Walk-through 1: Using SQL Data Compare

This walk-through will show you how to:

  • Set up a comparison
  • Understand the comparison results
  • Include a backup prior to synchronization
  • Confirm synchronization
Stop walk-through

Step 7: Viewing, selecting differences for synchronization

Detailed comparison screen

When you click on an object in the upper pane, the details of the object differences appear in the Row Differences pane at the bottom of the screen. Differences are highlighted in deep mauve. Current difference is highlighted in green.

In the Row Differences pane, the tabs identify rows that are only in the left-hand database; in both databases but different; only in the right-hand database; or identical. To navigate through the differences you can use the blue arrows. On the left of the arrows is the 'rotate data' button for viewing long rows of data as columns and vice-versa. This will toggle between 'Classic' and 'Pivot' views.
