Step 4: Comparing, synchronizingand deploying with script files

Comparing and synchronizing with script files

The usual procedures of SQL Compare can now be carried out using your designated scripts folder as the source or target data source. Equally, in the this project configuration screen, you can select to compare against an earlier backup. This is useful when you want to restore a given object without restoring the entire database. Alternatively you may want to quickly compile a database change history.

You can also use the SQL Changeset add-in. SQL Changeset enables you to integrate your 'check out/edit/check in' (VSS style) source control system with SQL Compare Professional Edition. As you can see in the Project Configuration screen above, if you have registered your source control folder with SQL Changeset, you can check 'Get latest version from source control' to substantially speed up the process of working with a scripts folder under source control.

For more details and a full worked example on how SQL Changeset can integrate SQL Compare with your source control system, please read the 'Using SQL Changeset' section in the contextual online help files (press F1).
