SQL Backup
Walk-through 1: Backing up a database
This walk-through will show you:
- How to back up a database
- How to compress your backup file
- How to encrypt your backup
Step 5: Define the backup processing options
Next, we are going to define our backup process.
There are three compression options. Which of these options is best for us depends on our specific circumstances. The Compression Analyzer can sample data for us to check which compression level will produce the best result for our requirements.
We can also encrypt our data. With a SQL Backup Pro license, we can choose between a 128-bit key and 256-bit key. In this instance, we've requested highest speed compression, with a 256-bit key encryption.
At this stage, we can also optimize backup performance by taking advantage of multiple threads in the engine. SQL Backup allows us to customize the number of threads we use, up to a maximum of 32.
