| Interesting. It probably won't be free, but I'd rather give money to JetBrains - with their unblemished history of not ripping people off - than RedGate. |

| Agreed. Free or not free, I'll be taking a good hard look at the JetBrains product and maybe I'll see what else they are offering over there as well... |

| JetBrains offers ReSharper which is an awesome tool. You can "F11" to step into a .NET method; it will then pull the .NET source (actual, commented source) on the fly and step into it. Pretty awesome. Checking out .NET assemblies was 90% of why I used Reflector anyway |

So it's a case of "He who codes and runs away, lives to code another day," huh? |

I own both JetBrains ReSharper and RedGate's .NET Developer bundle. I purchased each with a specific use in mind.
With regards to ReSharper, it's a great tool --I just wish it didn't slow my IDE down to a crawl or conflict with other Visual Studio add-ins. I usually have to disable it and haven't used it for months.
However, I don't see that issue with RedGate's profiling tools. (Reflector is just the icing on the cake with that bundle.)
It's a not about 'ripping people off' as much as it is creating a useful tool which gives you the best "bang for your buck". Since I actually have to disable ReSharper to develop, I was the one who got ripped off for something I can't use. |

Amen!
I think that Red Gate realized that they made a bad investment by spending money to add features to Reflector that were unasked-for, and now don't want to eat the costs of their bad investment, choosing instead to punish users for their mistake.
I regret that Lutz Roeder sold Reflector to a company that has decided to force users to eat the costs of their poor judgment regarding the market's need for an enhanced version of the tool - it's too bad he didn't simply open-source it.
[Edit] - And to those of you complaining about ReSharper's performance, either your machine is simply inadequate in some fashion, or you are not maintaining it very well - I don't have any problems running it, and my current client has me working with a Visual Studio solution that contains 23 separate projects (for the which we can thank the vendor that originally sold it to my client). Maybe you should utilize a RAM disk or something for the ReSharper files. Also, make sure your disk is defragmented often. I really don't know why people have problems with the speed of it, I've used it for over 3 years and never had a problem. |

Oh boy. I'm so p*****d right now. I uninstalled all RedGate products from my machine leaving only JetBrains products. I don't know, I'm not minding anymore even if I bought the profiler packages. I just feel I couldn't trust RedGate. I even had to create a new account just to post my rants here.
(now eyeing JetBrains profiler ) |
