Getting "Unhandled exception has occured.." message

I recently upgraded to SQL Data Compare 10.2.0.315 and uninstalled version 9. Now whenever I open up SSMS and use the object explorer in there to connect to a sql server I get a popup message that reads:

"Unhandled exception has occured in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Could not load file or assembly 'RedGate.Shared.Utils, Version=9.5.0.543, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7f465a1c156d4d57' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."

I can continue on after clicking on "Continue" but this is very annoying. What do we need to do to fix this? Clicking on the details button shows this 700-lines of information:

I started getting Red-Gate errors in SSMS errors as well immediately after upgrading to 10.2. I get the errors every time I open SSMS. Mine involve RedGate.SharedSSMS.ReflectionUtils throwing an error.

I checked the sharedutils dll and it says it's part of SQLPrompt... i do have that installed so I went to Programs and Features in Windows 7 and told it to Repair SQLPrompt... it did not modify this dll so I have to suspect that a SQL Data Compare 10.2 DLL is calling to this SQLPrompt sharedutils DLL and it is not finding the footprint it is expecting... redgate???

The exception is thrown by SSMS Integration Pack, which is used by SQL Compare, you can disable it by deleting the add-in file of SSMS Integration Pack located in "%programdata%\Microsoft\SQL Server Management Studio\11.0\Addins"

I checked "%programdata%\Microsoft\SQL Server Management Studio\11.0\Addins" and the only add-in in there is "RedGate.SQLPrompt.SSMSUI.2011.AddIn" in mine. I'm hesitant to remove it unless RedGate recommends it - I'll wait for their reply.

It looks like this may not be an issue with SQL Data Compare but it may be an issue with SQL Compare 10.2.0.696. Looking over at that forum, I see someone else has a similar issue to mine.

This is resolved. The patch release for SQL Compare 10.2.0.777 fixed this issue for me. Thanks.

I started getting the same unhandled exception as soon as I upgraded to the latest SQL Data Compare. "Could not load assembly RedGate.Shared.Utils version 9.5.0.543. The system cannot find the file specified" You should check the install of the new version of SQL Data Compare to see if it removes that DLL or if the new version of SQL Data compare is pointing to an older version of the DLL than it should be.

I uninstalled both SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare. Message went away.

Then I reinstalled the latest version of SQL Compare. No message.

As soon as I reinstalled the latest version of SQL Data Compare, I got the message again.

Hello Red Gate,

I too am experiencing this behaviour, well, not me but SSMS, version 10.0.2531.0 on Windows 5.01. 2600 Service Pack 3 (XP Professional).

The unhandled exception is triggered clicking on every object I've tried, making the use of SSMS painful.

I've not tried the patch and am reluctant to do so until officially sanctioned by Red Gate.

What do you mean by officially sanctioned? The patch was created by SQL Compare Development Team and made available to fix this problem.

The patch fixes two problems, the one reported in this forum thread regarding RedGate.SharedSSMS.ReflectionUtils and second issue which

I saw no mention of that fix being a solution to the problem mentioned in this thread, the only place I've been looking and as you say, the ReadMe alluded only to the SQL 2000 fix. A post in this thread would have been helpful but all sorted now, grateful for that, thanks.
