Previously, I have been scrupulous in keeping the backup (.SQB) files that I use to mount Virtual Restore databases.
I understood thatt he data was read out of this, and stub vlf, vmdf files used to make SQL Server recognise the database.
Today, however, I had a bunch of DBs to restore, and mistakenly deleted a backup file from a mounted VR database. Nothing untoward happened, and the DB continues to function as before.
I thought the Hyperbac engine kept the backup files locked? |

The files are not locked as they are opened for reading only. Some of the data may still be cached in the SQL buffers which may be why the database continues to be available, however the backup files still need to be online for VR to work properly _________________ Jeffrey Aven
