Exception Merger freezes

I have a smal problem with the Exception merger Tool.

It worls flawlessly for most of my assemblies.

However one in particular just freezes at 'Calculating Exceptions'.

Has anyone encountered something similar? Is there a workarround or a way to detect what is wrong?

I get it both when I run it from the GUI and the console.

Hi Brian

Thanks for changes - I have actually made a small merge program, which holds information about diffrent possible exceptions and a meaningful text.
So what I do is that I run the exception hunter and then I merge the output with the XML documentation and finally I use my tool to seek out the Red gate exceptions and then I change the wording according to the text I have made in my merge program. It give a really nice documentation of my assemblies.

I get the same error too with a different exception of "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

Could someone please help me abot the issue?

Hi Nathan,

The command-line version of Exception Hunter already supports the creation of reports organized by exception type (exception report), but it does not show the line of source, as far as I know.

At least this is a start for you. Hopefully we can look into this for a future version.

Searching for a specifc exception

Thanks for your post. I thought that this subject would come up a lot sooner!

I have modified the Exception Merger tool a bit so that it now has a "condition" argument where you can specify information about exceptions detected by Exception Hunter, or leave the field blank, if you want. You can download the new binaries from the labs site at labs.red-gate.com.

Hi

We are using exception hunter and the tool, which enables you to merge the found exceptions with your XML documentation. My question is if it is possible to change change the descriptions, which is insertet by the tool, so instead of "Dectected by Red gate exception hunter" then I could write my own text ?

If i have some code like thus

I get an error that System.Windows.Controls.DataPicker.get_SelectedDate() may raise a NullReferenceExcpetion

I have clearly dealt with it twice, I don't see why exception hunter is still showing it as an unhandled exception.

Just to clarify, are you getting the warning about not being able to locate the assembly or the error about not being able to analyze a method?

If you can't analyze a method, it may just be that the assembly, or one of its' dependencies, was built using an obfuscator. These can make it difficult or impossible for Exception Hunter to disassemble the code (essectially that's their job!) and there may not be a way of analyzing this dll without getting a version that isn't obfuscated.

You may want to try the latest private build of Exception Hunter 1.1. It has some improved reading of assembly metadata:
