The results wouldn't have to look exactly like the SSIS interface/BIDS.

At this moment, anything would be better than nothing

We haven't ruled it out, but it's not on the immediate roadmap. Is this more so you can compare or do you need this to deploy SSIS on different servers?
We have a product that tracks dependencies that currently ignores SSIS. The solution might be to make this product SSIS-aware. Another solution would be to make our free SQL Search tool SSIS-aware.

Thanks for drawing this use case to our attention.

Kind regards,
RE: SSIS Compare?

If I run a Dependancy Checker against a database and if the SSIS packages were stored in the database store (or I could pick .dtsx files) it would tell me of any dependancies.

There would be 2 uses:
1) Documentation - document what objects a package uses without having to go through it. Yes, I know that the programmer/dba should maintain this, but as a consultant I often come into clients where no such documentation exists and we need to create it.

2) Troubleshooting - it would help when digging into a database and trying to figure out what's going on.

Hi,

Sadly we have no plans to release an SSIS Compare tool at this point.

Thanks for the request.

SSIS Compare?

Well it's mid-2008 and SQL Server 2008 will be released soon. Any word on whether there will ever be an SSIS 2005 Compare?

I supposed I could just compare the .dtsx XML files, but if the differences are scattered throughout it could be tough to decipher...

Unfortunately the help for DTS Package Compare had never been completed, so the options are not going to be where the outdated help says they are.

If the goal of setting this option is to be able to filter out previous versions of the same package, DTS Package Compare 2.0 already has this functionality built-in. It is possible now to compare all versions of the packages to each other or even different versions of the same package.

Thanks Brian, I see all the options in the Filter tab now.

Compare Options Missing?

Hi there.

I'm using DTS Compare 2.0 to compare two packages with different GUIDs.
According to the online help there is an Ignore GUIDs option in the Options menu. However, when I go to the Options menu I do not see this option or indeed, any other of the "Ignore..." options. I only see options for "Don't wait...", background comparing and saving passwords. In the Advanced Options I only see options for caching.
I notice the help seems to be for pre-version 2.0. Were these options removed in version 2.0?

The servers are SQL Server 2000.

Regards,
Hello,

Sorry, I do not know of any utilities that do this. It may be difficult, because even though DTS is available to SQL Server 2005 as a 'legacy component', Microsoft have released SSIS as a replacement for DTS for SQL Server 2005. I also suspect that even the 'legacy' DTS for SQL Server 2005 is not entirely compatible with DTS Package Compare.

Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Hi all,

Im facing a situation where I need to compare DTS package in SQL server 2000 and SQL server 2005. According to the functionality offered by DTS Package compare 2.1, it doesnt support such functionality. It will allow only to compare packages in SQL server 2000 environment. Does any one of you know a tool which offers the above functionality ? If so please respond.

thanks.
