Run SQBConverter.exe from SSIS

We currently have an SSIS package that restores a database from a SQL SERVER BAK file. Our backups are now being preformed with RedGate. How do I get SSIS to execute the SQBConverter.exe to convert an SQB file into one BAK file?

Hi,

Is there a way to convert SQLBackup 5 (.SQB) file format to SQLBackup 6 or higher file format.

I would like to use the SQLVirtual Restore to mount the .sqb files that were backed up in SQLBackup 5.4.

Thanks.

COPYTO to network share fails from time to time

Hi,

I am using RedGate SQL Backup Pro v5.3 on SQL Server 2005 running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 server with 96GB of RAM.

I am seeing COPYTO failures (warning 141) every now and then. I searched the forums and tried setting MAXDATABLOCK and MAXTRANSFERSIZE parameters to the lowest possible setting, but that did not seem to help fix it. I have verified that it is not a permissions issue because the COPYTO goes through sometimes without failing.

We have the same version of SQL Backup Pro running on other Windows Server 2003 servers where we do not see any such errors.

Here are the contents of the log file:
Informational Messages

In earlier versions of SQLBackup, was the output generated ever sent as SQL informational messages?

I ask because we have an older application that handled log shipping and it verified the backup was successful by reading an informational message sent from the SQL command.

However, now I see that restores only do select statements to generate output messages. Is this (relatively) new?

Thanks

As it mentions in the post that you quoted, it is necessary to install sqbsetlogin manually, as it is not configured with the shipped version of SQL Backup.

Code:

EXEC master..sp_addextendedproc sqbsetlogin, 'xp_sqlbackup.dll'

RE: RedGate Backup job always fails

petey wrote:

The SQL Backup Agent service logs in to SQL Server using either Windows authentication or SQL Server authentication.

The default mode is Windows authentication, where the SQL Backup Agent service will log in using the credentials of the service startup user.

To log in using SQL Server authentication, you need to use the sqbsetlogin extended stored procedure e.g.

Code:

EXEC master..sp_addextendedproc sqbsetlogin, 'xp_sqlbackup.dll'
EXEC master..sqbsetlogin 'sa', 'sapassword'
EXEC master..sp_dropextendedproc sqbsetlogin

This will set up the SQL Backup service to log in using the sa user. To revert back to Windows authentication, run sqbsetlogin with blank values e.g.

Code:

EXEC master..sqbsetlogin '', ''

Try running sqbsetlogin without any values, in case the SQL Backup Agent service has been set up to use SQL Server authentication. Then try running a backup, after setting up the service startup user to be an account you know has sysadmin rights to SQL Server.

This appears to be the solution to a problem I am having in getting my SQL Backups to run (they keep erroring out saying that they cannot log in with the sa account, and that the password is wrong). This makes sense as I just recently changed the sa password on 2 diiferent servers and instances, and now this won't work - but I really do not want SQL Authentication being used to run the RedGate service/backup with anyway. So - I tried to run the code above to reset it back to Windows Authentication, but all I get is a 'Could not find stored procedure 'master...sqbsetlogin'. If this is a PROC - it's definitely not in the master db of the instance I am trying to fix...Does this work for SQL Backup 7? I am using SQL Backup 7 (7.0.5.1).

Thanks

Input string was not in a correct format

Hi,
I'm installing SQL Backup 5.4 on a new server, but I get this error every time I try to install the server components.
First it fails completely, but if I leave that window open, install SQBServerSetup, and then press retry, it says Input String was not in a correct format at the 'Updating SQL Server information' item.

I uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, only installed the server components, installed from a remote server, but nothing helps.

Please advise... I need this server up and running....
