RE: Does Data Compare support command line calls?

Hello.

You can call MySQL Data Compare from the command line, by running MDC.exe from the installation directory. You can get the documentation by running:

MDC /? /v

Whilst there isn't a success/failure output (I've added your support to our feature request MSDC-27), others have used the tool to generate the deployment script for the differences and saved that to a folder each time (success would be an empty script).

We'd be interested how you find the tool.

Does Data Compare support command line calls?

I have real-time database replication enabled between two MySQL v5.5.29 databases and I need an automated method to determine if the db's are in sync. I would implement a nightly or weekly process to call the utility to verify success or failure.

Can I call the dbcompare utility from a script and parse a return code for success or failure? This would be the same as calling the native MySQL utility mysqldbcompare.exe. While I've used the latter, it's just too slow for pratical use.

Thanks

Thank you dknight. Yes, although the specific example is for our SQL Server tool, that's the issue. Hopefully all is well now, do let me know if not!

I am having this same issue, and I'm running a registered version. In fact, the database is an exact copy (dumped the database, loaded to a new database in the same MySQL cluster, then diffed them just to be sure before modifying the new one). I would expect the databases to come up identical. Going to the MySQL command lines shows the contents of the tables as identical. I'm specifically using Data Compare.

The trial is fully functional, so it's not that.

Are the schemas of the tables that can't be compared identical? You could check this with the trial version of our other tool MySQL Compare

tables that could not be compared

I just downloaded the trial and am getting 3 tables with differences, 14 tables that are identical, and 25 tables that could not be compared.

Are the tables that can not be compared a limitation of using the trial version?

My source is CentOS 6 x86_64, version 5.1.52 and my target is Windows 7, xampp install, version 5.5.8.

I switched the source and target and still had the same issue.

RE: Modify deployment script capability

Hi

Thanks for the report. Which version of MySQL server is on staging and which is on production?

It'd also be great to know which storage engines you are using on both.

One final question, could you run the script manually and send us the error that is displayed? Hopefully this will give us more information and help resolve the issue.

Thanks again,
Modify deployment script capability

Hi
Just downloaded the trial today
I'm moving data from one mysqldb to another. It's a direct transfer from staging to prod
The mysql dbs are in different servers. The schema transfer worked without problems.
However when I run the data transfer, I get an error for a Set Foreign Key Checks statement.

I think the way around in this case is to just ignore those statements and try however there is no way to do this. Could you suggest an alternative.

Also is there any way to overwrite data in the target database instead of update

I've included the error below:
Hi,

To get the table schema you can run the following command SHOW CREATE TABLE tbl_name in a tool such as MySQL workbench.
RE: MySQL Data Compare bug report

Hi mmoore5553,

Sorry you didn't get a reply to your bug report, did you send it to the mysql mailbox mysql@red-gate.com?

The data comparison tool attempts to bring the two databases inline so by default it will try to drop data that is only in the target. At the comparison grid you need to uncheck the rows that are only present in the target in order to have MySQL Data Compare leave those rows alone.

Can you post the schema of the table you are comparing (`xf_cz_group_member`) here? I suspect there are multiple keys on that table and selecting an alternate one to use during the comparison might help.

FYI there are forums just for the MySQL tools:

http://www.red-gate.com/MessageBoard/viewforum.php?f=119
http://www.red-gate.com/MessageBoard/viewforum.php?f=146

Regards,
