RE: schema compare and queue tables and queues

Hi Melissa,

Queues and queue tables aren't yet supported, how many of each do you have?

Here is our list of currently supported objects types:
https://documentation.red-gate.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=6750392

Are there any other object types you use not included there? If you could let us know the relative importance of each that would be very helpful.

Best regards,
Michael

Hi,
Is there a way to set up my schema compare so that it will find my queues and queue tables?
Thanks!

Hi Luacap,

This has been included in Schema Compare 3.0.0.542 and Source Control 1.0.0.707.

Thanks,

Hi Jimmy,

Can you give me an example of this please? The DDL for the source and target table would help me recreate it.

Thanks,
I wonder why the schema compare will drop and recreate a constraint even though the constraints in source and target are the same.

Yes, I would like to hear about any workarounds that I could try!

Michael Christofides wrote:

Thank you for the comments. As you've noticed, this isn't supported, but there is a workaround that works in some cases. It depends on the current format of the files you have, but normally involves rearranging folder structures (to match ours) and adding empty xml files in specific places. If you're interested in trying it out let us know and we'll happily work through it with you.

I recently downloaded v3.0 of Schema Compare for Oracle and I not only have existing DDL files that I would like to compare against, but also I rely on generating DDL from our data modeling tool. When I used to have a SQL Server target, using Schema Compare (for SQL Server) against DDL generated by that same tool worked like a charm, so I was hoping for the same experience on Oracle.

Missing comments on columns when comparing a schema

I am trying to create an identical copy of an existing schema at an empty schema. It works well, except that I am missing the comments on the columns. Those are very important for us.

Is there any way to create them with your tool as well?
And is there any way to see if the comments of the columns don’t match?

RE: identical grant is not recognized as identical

Hi Peter,

Yes this is a bug. I'll add it to our tracking system. In the meantime you can actually work around it by selecting the option "ignore index names" in the edit project dialog.

This option was only supposed to allow you to ignore the names of indexes when comparing but it actually has a side effect where it will ignore the names of any objects and just search for a matching object.

Thanks,
Neil

identical grant is not recognized as identical

I compare base db with schema {css_plt_admin, css_plt} and target db with schema {foitest06_admin, foitest06}. Both db have the same synonym: ac_asmt.

the synonym on base db side :
CREATE OR REPLACE SYNONYM "CSS_PLT"."STATION_AMADEUS" FOR "CSS_PLT_ADMIN"."STATION_AMADEUS";

the synonym on target db side:
CREATE OR REPLACE SYNONYM "FOITEST06"."STATION_AMADEUS" FOR "FOITEST06_ADMIN"."STATION_AMADEUS";

Since the schema mapping is like this:
css_plt_admin <==> foitest06_admin
css_plt <-==> foitest06
the synonym should be regarded as identical.

However, they are not regarded as identical. The script generated by the Schema Compare will grant permission to the synonym and then revoke it:
GRANT SELECT ON foitest06_admin.station_amadeus TO foitest06;
GRANT INSERT ON foitest06_admin.station_amadeus TO foitest06;
GRANT UPDATE ON foitest06_admin.station_amadeus TO foitest06;
GRANT DELETE ON foitest06_admin.station_amadeus TO foitest06;

REVOKE SELECT ON foitest06_admin.station_amadeus FROM foitest06;
REVOKE INSERT ON foitest06_admin.station_amadeus FROM foitest06;
REVOKE UPDATE ON foitest06_admin.station_amadeus FROM foitest06;
REVOKE DELETE ON foitest06_admin.station_amadeus FROM foitest06;
After the script is deployed, we lost the permission of the synonym on target db.

The grant script is generated because the tool thinks the grant only exists on base db and the revoke script is generated because the tool thinks the grant only exists on target db. They should be regarded as identical to avoid this issue. I think this is a bug.

Hi, thank you for the request.

This is something we want to fix, but unfortunately it's not trivial so is not something we can fix in the near term.

Our internal reference for this work is OC-546, I'll post here when we have an update.
