installation on 64bit windows

Hi,

I have a new server to install and will need to migrate aardvark on to it. I was wondering if anyone can share any experiences of running aardvark under 64bit windows server?

Thanks,
Hi,

Sorry to say that the 50 email limit is hard-coded:

Code:

If lCount > 50 Then
            .POP3Close
            Err.Raise vbObjectError + 1, , "There are more than 50 queued messages in the " & m_sPOP3User & " mailbox."
        End If

Since Aardvark is no longer in development, there won't be a change made to the service to support the configuration of this variable. On the other hand, you could try shortening your Aardvark Service's service interval (HKLM\Software\Red Gate\Aardvark\Service interval REG_DWORD=<number of minutes>), this would cause the mailbox to be cleaned out more frequently.

Hope this helps!

Read Mail Nuisance message

We are getting a nuisance message from Aardvark:

Error in ReadMail - There are more than 50 queued messages in the Trackster mailbox.

This comes through on every 15 minute mail cycle and is annoying, to say the least.
Can this be switched off, or can the threshold be raised above 50? We have enough user tracking enough issues that there will always be more than 50 messages...

Thank you

Hi Ian,

This could be a problem, as we don't have the ability to generate new Aardvark serial numbers any more. If you have any details about who purchased it or what the invoice number is, I'd be happy to look them up if I can.

Can't create issue after moving aardvark to new server

Hello,

We've moved Aardvark to a new server, as the original server recently became unusable.

Our support staff ran the Aardvark setup program (accepting all defaults) rather than follow the procedure in the technical document for a manual install where SQL and Aardvark are on the same computer.

When I took over, I detached the blank Aardvark SQL database and attached the Aardvark SQL database from the old server, then resolved some SQL login name issues.

I can log on to Aardvark and view issues. I can change and save my personal details.

When I try to add an issue, I along with several other users get the error message "You do not have enough licences to raise bugs - please check your licence status".

At first I thought this was because of incorrect SQL permissons, but now I've concluded that I need to restore the license key file or do something to re-enter a license key. Incidentally, the new server name is not the same as the old server name.

We have a file-level backup of all of the files from the original server, but sadly no access to the old registry as the server will no longer boot.

What are your recommendations for restoring Aardvark to full normal operation?

Regards,

Ian.

Hi Jason,

Sorry, but Aardvark was discontinued in 2004 and te support cycle ended in June 2005. Unless anyone knows how to tweak it to get it to work, I don't think there is a lot we can do because nobody is going to fix any program code.

I can send you a link to 2.0, if you're on an earlier version. Maybe an update to the mail component will help.

RE: Aardvark Service repeatedly crashing

I have been going through trying to diagnose this problem more, as it has been causing our engineering department problems (thanks for the quick response, redgate!).

The problem seems to be with scandinavian characters, the 'ø' character imparticular. I think when the XML parser part of aardvark service finds one of these, it just falls over. I have tried to update our database to remove this character, but working with Swedish and Norwegian colleagues, this can be difficult. Will there EVER be a fix for this?

Jason wrote:

Hi,

I am experiencing a few problems with the aardvark service, in so much as it keeps crashing. I can start the service up, but usually in less than 30 seconds, it will crash out. The only clue in the event log is:

"Faulting application AardvarkService.exe, version 2.0.0.6, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.2.3790.1830, fault address 0x00028d3f." which means very little to me.

I have tried rebooting the server but that hasnt solved anything, doing a check on the sql db, but it found no errors. I have run an SQL trace, and the last command run before the crash is always different.

Currently, the service is now disabled, which means no emails will get sent. I dont suppose you can help with this?

Thanks,

Jason

Can I also add this to the request - it is a question from one of the usersm, and it sounds like it could perhaps be related...

"Do you have an idea why Aardvark sometimes changes issues itself? Recently it obviously changed the priority of all issues to "urgent""
Sorry, but we don't have a copy of it any more since Aardvark's been discontinued. The apps server has been decommissioned long ago and I suspect this file has died with it. It's not with the original source code, either.

Aardvark is version 2.00, with the database version 2.00.

Aardvark is installed on Windows Server 2003 SP1.
The SQL server is running on a separate server.
SQL Sever Standard Edition 2000 SP3.

Is it possible the database could have become damaged?
Do you think something like creating a backup to an XML file, creating a new database and importing the data back in could help?

What version? It may have been a bug that got fixed.

The whole search mechanism depends on fulltext so I have no clue what else it could be.
