SQL Response client not connecting to Alert Repository

Category: Troubleshooting & error messages
Date: 29 Sep 2009
Product: SQL Response
When connecting to the SQL Response Alert Repository, the following error may occur:

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.

In some cases, the remoting connection will fail when multiple network adapters are installed and the network adapter that connects to the Alert Repository's network is not the first in the list.

Confirm that the public card, ie, the one that you are trying to connect to, is the top binding card.

To find this, go to the machine that the alert repository is on and go to Network Connections in the Windows Control Panel and then choose "Advanced Settings" from the "Aadvanced" menu. You may change the connection order in the "Aadapters and Bindings" tab.
