Installation fails when Management Studio is not installed (version 1.1)
Category: Installing & upgrading
Date: 10 Jun 2009
Product: SQL Refactor
Versions: 1.1
Fix Versions: 1.2
Platforms: Red Gate SQL Toolbelt Installer
When installing SQL Refactor as part of SQL Prompt Bundle's Toolbelt installer, the installation fails with MSI error code 1603 when SQL Server 2005 Management Studio is not already installed on the computer.
SQL Refactor is implemented as an add-in for SQL Server 2005 Management Studio. If Management Studio is not available, the installation cannot continue.
You must install Management Studio on the computer before attempting to install SQL Refactor. If it is not installed, de-select SQL Refactor from the list of programs to install in the SQL Toolbelt installer. The installer can be re-run to install SQL Refactor at a later time after Management Studio has been installed.
Newer versions of the installer now warn you when SQL Server Management Studio is not installed so that you have the opportunity to install the rest of the SQL Toolbelt, and optionally install SSMS, SQL Refactor, and SQL Prompt at a later time.
