Disabling live log retrieval
Category: How do I?

Product: SQL Log Rescue
Versions: 1.2
When attempting to retrieve the log file from SQL Server, Log Rescue may time out or throw other errors because there is a hung transaction, or other problems with the database log. In these cases, it is possible to forgo the log analysis and substitute any transaction log backup files that may be available in place of the live log.
In order to cause SQL Log Rescue to skip analysis of the live log files, first create a new DWORD value in the following registry key called "Retrieve live log", and set the value to 0.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Red Gate\SQL Log Rescue
This registry value can be created using the Windows Registry Editor (start->run, enter REGEDIT.exe, RETURN).
Once this is done, restart SQL Log Rescue and set up a new project, specifying a database, full backup, and an unbroken chain of log backups starting after the specified full backup file. The analysis will show all of the data transactions that had occurred since the full backup, taking them from the log backup files.
