When connecting to a SQL Server over the VPN or any slow network, SQL Dependency Tracker may time out.
You can set a timeout on connections to the SQL server by changing the connection properties to SERVERNAME;connection timeout=120. (Where SERVERNAME is the DNS name of the SQL Server)
