Error trying to run backup job

An error may be reported by the SQL Server Agent when attempting to run a scheduled backup job:
Request to run job XXX (from User XXX) refused because the job is already running from a request by Schedule 1 (Schedule 1).
The cause of this error may be that a previous job may have failed to finish cleanly. Stop and start the SQL Server Agent service as well as the SQL Backup Agent service.
