"Failed to initialize local data store" error

When using the SQL Backup user interface, the following error may occur:
Failed to initialize local data store: Access to the database file is not allowed. [File name]

Open regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Red Gate\SQL Backup\BackupSettingsGlobal\<instance name>\DataPath

or, for 64-bit machines:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Red Gate\SQL Backup\BackupSettingsGlobal\<instance name>\DataPath

Look at the value of DataPath and navigate to that location.

Ensure the SQL Backup Agent Service startup account has permissions to access/write to this folder and the data.sdf file.
