When a backup job has started while the SQL Backup user interface is open, the status column shows "In Progress". This status does not change after the backup is complete.
This is caused when the backup is run using WITH VERIFY, which will complete the backup and run a restore operation. Upon completion of the verification, the user interface is not notified of the status change, so the status of any jobs in progress will never show as complete.
If the user interface is closed and re-opened, however, the job status will show as complete at any time after the job has completed, because it is reading from the job history rather than waiting for a notification from the SQL Backup Agent on the server being backed up.
