SQL Backup installation from SQL Toolbelt installer only installs the console

Category: Installing & upgrading
Date: 07 Apr 2009
Product: SQL Backup
Versions: SQL Backup 5.2 or later (SQL Toolbelt Installer)

One of the following may occur after installing SQL Backup from the SQL Toolbelt Installer:

 - SQL Backup has not installed correctly.
 - Backup, Restore, Scheduled Backup Jobs and Log Shipping Wizards are greyed out.
 - Backups cannot be performed from the SQL Backup console or scheduled SQL Backup jobs
 - 64-bit server components have not been upgraded

Before SQL Backup's inclusion into the SQL Toolbelt installer, the SQLBackupSetup.exe would install the SQL Backup GUI and if a default instance of SQL Server was detected on the same machine, the server components Server Components would be installed automatically. This no longer occurs with the SQL Toolbelt Installer; only the SQL Backup GUI is installed.

After installing SQL Backup, the Server Components must be manually installed to each SQL Server or SQL Instance manually as follows:

 - Register the SQL Server or SQL Instance in SQL Backup. Right-click the appropriate time zone in the Registered SQL Servers Pane and select 'Add SQL Server'. Follow the directions of the wizard.
 - Once the SQL Server is successfully registered, right-click the new server in the Registered SQL Servers Pane and select 'Install or upgrade Server Components'. Follow the Server Components Installation Wizard.
 - If the previous step fails, locate the SQBServerSetup.exe file in the %programfiles%\Red Gate\SQL Backup directory of the computer where SQL Backup had been installed. If the SQL Server that needs the components installed is the local computer, run SQBServerSetup.exe from this directory. If you wish to deploy the server components to a remote SQL Server, copy the SQBServerSetup.exe to the server, log into the server's console either locally or using Remote Desktop, and run it from there.
