SQL Backup 5 cannot connect to servers running SQL Backup 4.0

The user interface of SQL Backup version 5 cannot be used to manage servers running SQL Backup server components version 4.0.0.113. When connecting to the server, the error message recorded when you right-click the server in the interface is:
A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
There is no known workaround for this issue. Either the SQL Backup server components need to be upgraded to version 4.1 or higher, or SQL Backup must be managed by logging in to the server's desktop and running the user interface for version 4.0.
