Activation fails because response does not match registration properties

When activating SQL Backup using the SQL Backup console, the following error message may be displayed:

Activate Server - Failed: The activation response does not match the registration properties

This error can actually be caused by an incorrectly-formatted serial number. When SQL Backup checks the serial number for validity, it includes all characters in the serial number box, including spaces.

The format of a SQL Backup serial number is similar to this:

XXX-XXX-XXXXXX-XXXX

If the serial number entered does match this pattern, please check for leading and trailing spaces in the serial number and delete them before submitting the activation request.
