Cannot log on to Exchange errors occurring in the Admin Console

Category: Troubleshooting & error messages

When attempting to run an archive task, the following error may occur:
Cannot log on to Exchange. This may be because:
- Computer was not rebooted after MAPI (re-)install
- Archive Service user 'esauser@domain.local' does not have the correct permissions (see http://www.red-gate.com/esa/3.0?i=9190)
- No mailbox exists for user 'esauser@domain.local'
- Mailbox 'esauser@domain.local' is ambiguous; username may exist on multiple domains

If this error occurs, first check the Archive Service log in %allusersprofile%\application data\red gate\logs\esa archive service 3, and search for the text above. Shortly after this, you may see:

System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {35529355-F705-4E41-94B5-99A7B704A226} failed due to the following error: 80070003.

  - or -

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {35529355-F705-4E41-94B5-99A7B704A226} failed due to the following error: 80070002.

This may indicate that the MAPI abstraction component of Exchange Server Archiver is not properly installed. To fix this, it's usually a matter or registering the component that is failing to load. Open a command prompt and execute the following command:

%programfiles%\red gate\esa archive service\RedGateMapi.exe /regserver

Then restart the "ESA Archive Service" on the local computer.

Although a reboot is not normally required after this, be aware that in some cases you may need to reboot the computer.
