User DOMAIN\user cannot be granted permission on the mailbox - no archive service which could be contacted allowed this (1.0)

You may receive an Outlook error when trying to open archived attachments:

"User DOMAIN\user cannot be granted permission on the mailbox user@domain.com - no archive service which could be contacted allowed this"

Viewing the Exchange Server Archiver log file will reveal this information:

RedGate.ExchangeArchiver.ExchangeAbstraction.ExchangeAbstractionException: Cannot retrieve distinguished name for Active Directory user 'Everyone'

This error occurs because there is an entry for "Everyone" on the ACL for the mailbox. This is failing to be converted to an Active Directory distinguished name, and so "failing safe" and not allowing the access.

The solution is to remove the Everyone group from the mailbox permissions and replace it with "Domain Users" which is a normal AD group, as opposed to a "special" group.
