Admin Console continuously prompts for User Archive Access (UAA) Service website credentials followed by error

If the ESA Admin Console is installed on the same machine as the UAA Service website server (Windows 2003 SP1 or later/IIS 6), you may be prompted for credentials. Regardless of the credentials inputted you may receive another credential prompt or a UAA Service Access denied error message on the Maintenance tab.

This can occur during the Configuration Wizard UAA Service website installation or when opening/registering a UAA Service website in the Admin Console.

When attempting to open the UAA Service website using the Fully Qualified Domain Name(FQDN)/CNAME in Internet Explorer(IE) you should be prompted for credentials. If you input a valid domain account and hit enter, IE displays error message "HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials" or similar. You may have to enter the credentials multiple times to see this error. If you then attempt to access the website using just the physical machine name and/or from a different machine, the UAA Service website will display correctly after the initial credential prompt.

This is caused by a loopback check and authentication failure when the FQDN or custom host header used does not match the local computer name. More information regarding this and a workaround can be found here:

*Version 1.1 of Exchange Server Archiver will now automatically disable the loopback check where necessary while installing the User Archive Access Service.
