When analyzing an assembly with Exception Hunter, the following error may occur:
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B1) System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException
This can occur because one of Exception Hunter's helper libraries, RedGate.Exceptions.DebugInformation.dll, cannot load due to a missing or incorrectly-versioned dll in the Windows side-by-side folder.
To fix the problem, first ensure that the "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable" is installed by checking for this in Windows "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel. If this is not present, you can download and install the redistributable from Microsoft's website at:
32-bit Windows: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=200b2fd9-ae1a-4a14-984d-389c36f85647
64-bit Windows: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=eb4ebe2d-33c0-4a47-9dd4-b9a6d7bd44da
If the redistributable is installed, you will need to apply a security update to it. If "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923" does not exist in the add/remove programs control panel, or if you have just reinstalled the redistributable, you must apply this update by downloading it from Microsoft's website at:
32-bit and 64-bit Windows: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2
You should not be required to reboot after applying these updates.
