Running an IIS application pool as a named identity

Category: Security & data protection
Date: 05 Sep 2008
Product: ANTS Profiler
Versions: all except 3.0
Platforms: Web applications hosted in IIS 6 & 7

ANTS Profiler starts an application pool outside of IIS for running web applications. By default, this application pool runs under the NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM account. This may need to be changed to a named user account in certain circumstances.

To change the user account that will start the application pool used for profiling a .NET web application hosted in IIS, simply change the service startup account of the ANTS Profiler Service to the account that you would like to use as the application pool identity. Since the ANTS Profiler Service is responsible for launching the application pool, it will inherit the identity of the startup account for the ANTS Profiler Service.

In ANTS Profiler version 3, the service is named "ANTS Profiler 3 Service".
In ANTS Profiler version 4, the service is named "ANTS Performance Profiler 4 Service" or "ANTS Memory Profiler 4 Service", depending on whether you want to perform memory or performance profiling.
