Profiling client-side XBAP .NET applications
Category: How do I?
Date: 17 Jun 2009
Product: ANTS Memory Profiler
Versions: 3.x,4,5
Does ANTS Profiler support XBAP applications that run in my web browser? What issues arise when profiling an XBAP application?
ANTS Profiler version 3 can profile XBAP applications.
Support for XBAP had been dropped in ANTS Performance Profiler 4.0, but was re-introduced in 4.3.
One issue to take under consideration is that since XBAP does not support interop into unmanaged code, limiting ANTS Profiler by making it unable to access the core2 dll, the effect being that there will be no line-level timings for XBAP applications.
Secondly, if any changes are made to the code of your XBAP application, the compiled, cached version of the application may need to be refreshed. To accomplish this, you may use the 'mage' application from the .NET SDK.
mage -cc
If you do not have the SDK installed, it is also possible to clear the cache from the command prompt using the following command:
rundll32 %windir%\system32\dfshim.dll CleanOnlineAppCache
