A managed code profiler can work using either the "code sampling" or "code instrumentation" models. ANTS Profiler implements code instrumentation.
Code sampling is the process of stopping code and analyzing it briefly (a sample); code sampling doesn't allow for quite a few of the features available in code instrumentation.
Code instrumentation is the process of being able to modify the code as it is being given to the .NET runtime for execution. For example, markers can be 'injected' into running Intermediate Language code in order to provide ANTS Profiler with advanced statistical capabilities.
ANTS Profiler uses the instrumentation profiling method, and at this time it does not support sampling.
