Installation error 5100 when installing ANTS Performance Profiler and ANTS Memory Profiler

ANTS Performance Profiler 6.2, and builds of ANTS Memory Profiler 7.0 downloaded before July 12 2011, fail to install on computers with the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable installed.

The installer gives the error message 'Installation error 5100 when running program'.

To fix this problem, download the current versions of the profilers from http://www.red-gate.com/products/dotnet-development/dotnet-developer-bundle/

Cause

This problem occurs because the profiler installers require a specific version of the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.

Upgrades to the redistributable package normally install side by side, but the versions of the redistributable package supplied with the Visual Studio 2010 SP1 upgrade overwrite the old versions.

Because the profilers were released prior to Visual Studio 2010 SP1, the installer fails when Windows stops it from overwriting the newer redistributable package with the older one.

Note that this problem affects only the installer. Once installed, the profiler will run normally with either the 2010 or 2010 SP1 redistributable packages.
