Licensing issues with SQL Monitor
Date: 04/08/2011
Product: SQL Monitor
What's the problem?
The valid serial number previously activated on the Configuration>Licensing page of SQL Monitor is removed without warning, causing the application to become unlicensed.
What's the most likely cause?
You have more than one version of SQL Monitor installed on your network, and each version is using the same Data Repository database.
To check this:
- Check the name and location of the Data Repository database. This is displayed on the Configuration>About page as the Database entry under Base Monitor.
- Run the query
sys.sp_who2against the database, and find processes that display SQL Monitor - Repository in the ProgramName column. The HostName column entries for these rows confirm which machines are running SQL Monitor.
How do I fix it?
You must store collected data in a separate Data Repository database for each installation. If you are only using one version of SQL Monitor, simply uninstall the redundant version(s).
If you want to maintain separate versions of SQL Monitor, create a new Data Repository database for one of the installations, and update the connection string between the Base Monitor service and the database. For details of how to do this, see Moving the Data Repository database.
