Worked example: converting a backup file to native SQL Server format - SQL HyperBac

This example shows you how to extract a native SQL Server backup file from a SQL HyperBac compressed backup file, using the HyperBac WinExtractor utility program.

You can also use the HyperUtil.exe command line utility to extract native SQL Server backup files. See About the HyperBac utilities for more information about both utilities.

To extract a native SQL Server backup file from a SQL HyperBac compressed backup file:

1. Run HyperBac WinExtractor from the Windows Start menu (select All Programs > Red Gate > HyperBac > HyperBac WinExtractor):
   

   
   

   In this example, we'll use the compressed backup file initially created in Worked examples: backing up with compression or encryption ("AdventureWorks_backup.hbc").

2. Click  for the Source File field, and select the compressed source file (in this example, D:\Backups\AdventureWorks_backup.hbc").
3. To view information (metadata) about the compressed source file, click
   

   
   

4. Click  for the Destination File field, and specify the location and file name for the extracted native SQL Server backup file (in this example, "D:\Backups\AdventureWorks_backup.bak").

   As we are not working with an encrypted backup file in this example, we leave the Encryption Key File field blank.

5. Click Extract to start the extraction process, and create the native SQL Server backup file:
