Changing your participation in the quality improvement program

Date: May 2011
Product: SQL Backup

SQL Backup can automatically send anonymous information about the features you use to Red Gate. This information helps Red Gate improve the reliability and performance of SQL Backup and decide which new features to add and bug fixes to prioritize.

When you run the SQL Backup graphical user interface for the first time, you are given the option to participate in the quality improvement program. If you choose not to participate, SQL Backup will not send any usage data back to Red Gate.

Read more about the types of data collected by the quality improvement program.

If you later decide to change you participation in the quality improvement program, you will need to edit the SmartAssemblyReportUsage key in the Windows registry.

Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall the operating system. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To change your participation in the quality improvement program:

  1. From the Windows Start menu, choose Run.

    The Run dialog opens.

  2. In the Open text box, type regedit, then click OK.

    The Registry Editor opens.

  3. In the left-hand pane, navigate to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Red Gate\SQL Backup 7 folder.

In the right-hand pane, the value of the SmartAssemblyReportUsage key shows whether you have already accepted (True) or declined (False) to use the quality improvement program.

  4. Double-click the SmartAssemblyReportUsage key.

    The Edit String dialog opens.

  5. Edit the text in the Value data text box. 'True' will cause SQL Backup to send quality improvement program data to Red Gate. 'False' will prevent SQL Backup from sending this data to Red Gate.

To force SQL Backup to display the quality improvement program dialog when you start the GUI, delete the SmartAssemblyReportUsage key (right-click the key, then click Delete).

  6. Close the Registry Editor.
