Upgrading Exchange Server Archiver
Overview
To upgrade Exchange Server Archiver, you must:
- Collect some information about your existing Exchange Server Archiver installation (see Preparing to Upgrade).
You will need this information when you upgrade the services and components.
- Install the latest Admin Console, and then upgrade the services and components (see Upgrading).
Preparing to Upgrade
Before you start the upgrade process, you need to collect the following information:
- Archive Service and Storage Service user names
- Archive Service and Storage Service connection protocols
- Storage Service Indexing Catalog location
- User Archive Access Service URL
- User Archive Access Service website configuration
You will need this information when you upgrade the Exchange Server Archiver services. The following sections describe where to find this information.
Archive Service and Storage Service user names
To find the Archive Service and Storage Service user names:
- In Windows Administrative Tools, open Services.
- Make a note of the user names in the Log On As field for the ESA Archive Service and ESA Storage Service.

Archive Service and Storage Service connection protocols
To find the Archive Service and Storage Service connection protocols:
- In the Exchange Server Archiver Admin Console, click the Maintenance tab.
- Right-click each service, and select Properties.

The first three characters in the URI field show the connection protocol for the service (tcp, or icp).
Storage Service Indexing Catalog location
To find the Storage Service Indexing Catalog location:
- In Windows Administrative Tools, open Computer Management, then select Services and Applications > Indexing Service.
- Make a note of the path in the Location field for Exchange Server Archiver.

User Archive Access Service URL
To find the User Archive Access Service URL:
- In the Exchange Server Archiver Admin Console, click the Maintenance tab.
- Right-click the User Archive Access Service, and select Properties.
User Archive Access Service website configuration
To find information about the User Archive Access Service website configuration:
- In Windows Administrative Tools, open Internet Information Services.
- In the Web Sites folder, locate the virtual directory that matches the directory in the User Archive Access Service URL ("UAAService" in this example). Make a note of the Web Site name that contains this virtual directory, and of the virtual directory name.
- You should also note the port number, which is shown after the ":" in the User Archive Access Service URL ("80" in this example).
Upgrading
- Install the Admin Console by running the installer that you downloaded from the Red Gate Web site.
This installs the Admin Console, and places the installers for the services and components in your installation folder. By default, these are copied to
%programfiles%\Red Gate\ESA Admin Console 1\Installers. - Upgrade the services and components by running the installers in the following order, choosing the correct installer (x86 or x64) for your machine:
