In the Exchange Server Archiver Admin Console dashboard, the Size column displays the size on the Exchange server of Exchange Servers, storage groups, and mailboxes.

Admin Console Size Column

When a mailbox is archived, the reduced mailbox size after archiving is shown when the data is next refreshed (see Refreshing the data).

However, for storage groups and Exchange Servers, you will see the resulting reduction in the size on the server only when you have defragmented the Exchange server database.

Similarly, if you view the storage group size on the Exchange server you will see the reduction in size only when you have defragmented the Exchange server database.

You are advised to defragment your Exchange Server databases after the first archive to take advantage of the reduction in the size of Exchange Server stores. You should then continue to defragment the databases according to your usual maintenance schedule.

For more information about defragmenting the Exchanger server database, see the Microsoft Support article How to defragment Exchange databases.
